This was the former chairman's second visit to Taiwan since leading an ARATS cultural and creative industry and calligraphy art delegation in September 2012. It was also the first mainland delegation joined by calligraphers to visit Taiwan for exchanges. On the day of the group's arrival, SEF Chairman Lin Join-sane and Vice Chairman Chang Hsien-yao met and held a banquet for the delegation.

5/26     Jiangsu Governor Li Xueyong leads a delegation to Taiwan for exchanges

Jiangsu Governor Li Xueyong led a mission to Taiwan for a "Family and Friend Visit for Exchanges and Cooperation" on May 26 to 30. SEF Chairman Lin Join-sane met with Governor Li and welcomed him to Taiwan. He also emphasized that Taiwan is a pluralistic society where people are free to express their views. He hoped that the review process for the Cross-Straits Agreement on Trade in Services would not affect normal cross-strait exchanges and cooperation or consultations on follow-up agenda items. Jiangsu is an important center for Taiwan businesses. It is hoped the Jiangsu Province can provide more assistance and care for Taiwan businesses so that enterprises of the two sides can cooperate, jointly create global brands and global industry standards, open up global opportunities, further tap global markets, lead global market developments, and win the world's admiration. Governor Li stressed that the solid advances made through the development of two major platforms—the Cross-Straits Entrepreneurs' Summit and Kunshan Deepen Cross-Strait Industrial Cooperation Experimental Zones—Jiangsu will expand capabilities to support and serve Taiwan enterprises.

Henan's economy has traditionally been driven by agriculture and industry. Today, the province is at a critical juncture in economic and industrial transformation and upgrading. Henan highly welcomes Taiwan companies to invest in and form cooperation ties with the province. Henan will also encourage local enterprises to invest in Taiwan.

It expressed hope that the mainland would widely solicit comments and reconsider the bill.

SEF Chairman Lin Join-sane led an SEF delegation to visit Taiwan businesses in Tianjin and Shijiazhuang and Baoding in Hebei Province on June 19 to 22. In addition to listening to the hopes of Taiwan businesspeople and strengthening communication and liaison with Taiwan businesspeople, the delegation visit aimed to publicize the content of the Cross-Straits Agreement on Trade in Services and encourage mainland-based Taiwanese businesses to invest back in Taiwan. 6/25     TAO Director Zhang Zhijun visits Taiwan

Director Zhang Zhijun of the mainland's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) led a delegation to Taiwan for a four-day visit from June 25 to 28. The visit to Taiwan was promoted in line with the consensus on regular exchange visits by the heads of the competent authorities for cross-strait affairs. On the first day of the visit, MAC Minister Wang Yu-chi and Director Zhang held the second meeting between the heads of the competent authorities for cross-strait affairs. The two sides communicated views on the development of cross-strait relations and other important issues. During visits to New Taipei City, Kaohsiung, Taichung and other areas, Zhang and the delegation members experienced Taiwan's democratic and pluralistic society and developed a more accurate understanding of public opinion and views on the development of cross-strait relations in Taiwan.
